LOCATION: Lakeshore Technical College - Cleveland, Wisconsin

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide instructional assistance to students studying for GED/HSED/HSED 5.09, college preparation, and general studies courses. Use technology to provide instructional support. Problem-solve, maintain, and troubleshoot technology needs. Facilitate individual and small group learning activities. Maintain student record activities, including data gathering and input. Provide an exceptional customer service experience to both internal and external customers throughout every interaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Other duties may be assigned):

(70%) Instructional Assistant
  • Provide individual tutoring in the GED/HSED/HSED 5.09 programs.
  • Provide tutoring for college students including math, writing, and reading.
  • Assist in college preparation studies.
  • Administer and score tests. Interpret and explain test results to students.
  • Determine instructional materials for students.
  • Through the intake process, orientate students to the facility, and distribute appropriate instructional lab materials.
  • Administer and explain required documentation for enrollment (e.g. registrations, demographics, student conduct code, Personal Education Plan) to students and assist them with the completion of needed documents.
  • Complete and maintain intake records and reports.
  • Assist in grading student work and record grades appropriately.
  • Distribute and monitor appropriate instructional materials.
  • Facilitate individual and small group learning activities.
  • Support the unique education needs of students. Assist in connecting students with external services, such as WIOA partner programs, and campus support, such as accommodation services, advising, or multicultural services.
  • Assist current students to reach their academic goals through instructional assistance, encouragement, and motivation.
  • Monitor, maintain, and oversee the Skills Lab and computer lab stations.
  • Create student computer accounts; provide support and assistance to students in accessing computer programs and the learning management system.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to ensure student success and program success.
  • Prepare correspondence and letters for students.
  • Support students in working toward educational and career goals.

    (20%) Program Support
  • Maintain communication between students and LTC staff.
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention activities.
  • Conduct intake sessions for all Adult Education students.
  • Register, enroll, and enter grades, attendance, TABE scores, demographics, and terminations on the client management system.
  • Provide information to prospective and returning students related to the program, requirements and expectations, and current class/lab schedules.
  • Enter and maintain attendance records.
  • Administer, score, and record initial assessment. Communicate results to faculty for course planning.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and mechanisms to ensure integrity and security of academic records.
  • Communicate with high school guidance counselors/principals, and parents regarding High School Contract students' attendance records, progress report, and test scores.
  • Create and maintain documents, spreadsheets, tables, graphs, and lists.
  • Promote a positive image of LTC both internally and externally.
  • Provide data support for faculty grant reporting needs.
  • Develop and maintain student records of attendance and academic progress.
  • Maintain and schedule return appointments, Career Awareness, Employability Skills, and orientations.
  • Accurately compile and maintain records, files, and reports for Client Reporting.
  • Assist faculty with transcripts for course substitution options.
  • Assist students with course planning/schedules.

    (10%) Other
  • Maintain an "everybody can succeed" philosophy, and advocate for student needs.
  • Provide written and oral information to students related to LTC, Adult Education programs, requirements, current schedule, and current offerings.
  • Motivate students to reach their goals from intake to course enrollment.
  • Advocate for student's needs.
  • Participate as a member of the team by attending meetings, training activities, and professional development activities.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide work direction and training to new and evening employees. Assist in the orientation of adjunct instructors.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and related associate degree in a related discipline required.
  • Two to three years of relevant occupational experience required.

    TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
  • Be familiar with basic hardware; use a laptop, printer, and scanning techniques equipment.
  • Securely access college network systems using appropriate multi-factor authentication, navigate through Windows; and appropriate navigation through the internet.
  • Use voicemail, email, and calendaring programs.
  • Understand database concepts and use queries; create a basic spreadsheet; create simple charts and graphs; develop materials using presentation software; manage and create files.
  • Use video conferencing.
  • Utilize PeopleSoft appropriately.
  • Use electronic timesheet.
