Job Description
The Instructional Designer is a dynamic and detail-oriented position to support the development of compliance training, skill-based learning frameworks, and strategic alignment of employee development opportunities with job roles. This role will focus on creating engaging, asynchronous learning pathways, coordinating compliance training efforts, and integrating the Skills Library into the University of Tennessee's employee LMS (K@TE). This position will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure training programs meet compliance requirements, align with position descriptions, and support employees in developing skills for current and future career pathways.

This position will work closely with the following subject matter experts: E-Learning Coordinator/LMS Technical Assistant for compliance coordination and group setup E-Learning Manager for strategic partnerships related to compensation and program evaluation; EOD team to provide support on the continuing e-learning strategies;
and system stakeholders to identify training needs and opportunities.


Responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Compliance Training Coordination:
  • Manages the the campus compliance training efforts by collaborating with the stakeholders in the
    course decision process.
  • Partners with the E-Learning Coordinator/LMS Technical Assistant to coordinate compliance training efforts, including the development of training packages and the set-up of user groups in the LMS.
  • Test and troubleshoot compliance courses to ensure functionality and accessibility.
  • Monitor compliance training completion rates and provide regular updates to stakeholders.

Instructional Design and Asynchronous Learning Pathways:
  • Consult with stakeholders to design and develop engaging, asynchronous learning pathways tailored to diverse employee needs.
  • Consult with stakeholders to develop training materials, including eLearning modules, job aids, and other resources, for developmental needs and HRIS technical support, using instructional design best practices.
  • Curate supplementary third-party courses to integrate into learning pathways.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts (SMEs) to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
  • Develop and implement evaluations of the effectiveness of training programs using metrics such as learner feedback, skill acquisition, and performance improvement.
  • Manage the course library in the LMS, ensuring proper categorization, accessibility, and alignment with University goals and objectives.
  • Advises EEOD team and HR on instructional design standards for training material development

Skills-Based Frameworks:
  • Develops and implements the Skills Library in K@TE in collaboration with the E-Learning Manager, EOD team, and the Compensation team.
  • Ensure the Skills Library aligns with position descriptions, enabling employees to identify and develop skills
    relevant to their roles and career aspirations.
  • Analyzes and reports on utilization of courses in relation to Skills Library.


Participate in professional development activities as assigned by the Executive Director.

Keep abreast of industry standards and best practices for adult learning and accessible delivery methods.

Qualifications
A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in years in instructional design, eLearning development, or a related field.

Additional skills, experiences, and qualifications include:

Experience:
  • Experience with compliance training coordination and LMS administration.
  • Familiarity with skills-based frameworks and their application in employee development.

Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate).
  • Experience with LMS platforms (e.g., K@TE, Blackboard, Canvas, or similar).
  • Knowledge of Open Sesame or similar course libraries.

Soft Skills:
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Education, or related field. Certification in Instructional Design or related fields. Experience in higher education or large public institutions. Familiarity with program evaluation methodologies and tools.

Benefits and Compensation
Compensation for the position is budgeted for $60,000 to $75,000.
