About the Position:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) is committed to educating engineers and computer scientists who will graduate with state-of-the art knowledge in their chosen field and are ready to embark on careers in industry and government, or proceed to acquire advanced degrees in their own or related fields. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Electrical Engineering department as an Instructional Support Technician III. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Provides technical support to faculty/students in Electrical Engineering laboratory courses and research including: Circuits and Electronics Labs, Digital Design Labs, Power Lab, Robotics Lab, Senior Design Project Lab, and Microwave/Optics and Microcomputer Labs. Purchases, sets up, calibrates, maintains and repairs Electrical Engineering laboratory equipment as needed. Plans and develops systems for acquisition and dispensing of laboratory materials, equipment and supplies; use knowledge of discipline and knowledge of materials, equipment and supplies to gather and develop specifications. Develops schedule for maintenance minimizing downtime of equipment and conduct routine maintenance of the Electrical Engineering labs. Works with faculty and CSUF EHS to assist in the development and compliance of laboratory safety and security procedures. Works with faculty to assist in the development of new or updated instructional offerings dependent on materials, supplies, and equipment support; assist or solve problems related to laboratory materials substitutions, costs, or new equipment acquisition. Maintains laboratory-use records, prepare reports, plans, and schedules for laboratory-related activities; coordinate a variety of technical support activities involving services provided by others such as technical equipment repair. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Four years of experience or the equivalent providing instructional support services, producing materials and supplies, or repairing equipment in a discipline related to the assigned area. Completion of two years of college from an accredited institution with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in a related discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Completion of four years of college or the equivalent from an accredited institution with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in a related discipline may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Knowledge of the principles, methods, and information related to performing support services related to the discipline. Knowledge of the materials and supplies related to the curriculum, their characteristics, and uses. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule work. Ability to operate and repair technical and scientific equipment. Ability to coordinate support service to meet a comprehensive variety of needs. Ability to develop off-campus resources related to the discipline for obtaining materials or equipment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science from an accredited four-year college or University in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline. Several years of experience in conducting or providing technical support for Electrical Engineering experiments. Extremely familiar with the use of basic Electrical Engineering lab equipment and supplies such as oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, and Meters (Voltage, Amperage, and Wattage) including setup, calibration and maintenance of these devices. Familiarity with the use of advanced Electrical Engineering laboratory instruments such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, data acquisition devices and/or computers. Familiarity with the use of Electrical Engineering power and machinery devices such as AC and DC motors, Variacs, high voltage systems, and transformers. Familiarity with the commonly used Electrical Engineering lab materials and supplies such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, transistors, IC chips, and wire/cables. Competent in the troubleshooting and repair of analog and digital devices and equipment for Electrical Engineering labs. Extremely familiar with the safety and security procedures for Electrical Engineering labs. Able to show an understanding of basic electrical and electronic circuits, for example, the construction of resistive/RL/RC/RLC circuits, filters, unregulated/regulated power supplies, amplifiers, pads, etc. Able to show an understanding of basic digital logic circuits, for example, the use of logic gates, flipflops, etc.
