DESCRIPTION

Penn State College of Engineering is seeking a Director to lead the Office for Digital Learning and to provide strategic input on digital learning to the Dean and Associate Deans. The Office for Digital Learning (ODL) provides critical services in support of online degree programs, online summer courses, micro-credentialing, and the integration of technology in residential instruction. Services provided by ODL include: research-based instructional design, development of course elements to increase student engagement, ensure accessibility and promote academic integrity; design and development of course sites in Canvas/Open EdX, design of and faculty training for high-quality lecture capture/streaming in a variety of classrooms; resolution of technical issues related to student access and use of online course materials. The Director works with all College of Engineering Departments and oversees College of Engineering Distance Education Classrooms in coordination with COE IT. The Director is the primary representative of the College with World Campus for existing and new online program offerings, and is also the College's primary contact for the Digital Learning Cooperative, Office of Conferences and Institutes, and Outreach at University Park and will represent the College on a number of University-wide committees dealing with all aspects of digital learning. The Director will work closely with the Assistant Dean for Teaching and Learning/Director of the Leonhard Center and Associate Dean for Education to extend and improve the role of digital technologies in engineering education, and with the Assistant Dean for Curricular Innovation and Program Assessment to coordinate program proposals for the World Campus.

Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A qualified applicant should have excellent leadership skills, including the abilities to manage budgets, create highly functioning teams, and communicate effectively across a wide range of audiences within Penn State, students, staff, faculty, and administrators, as well as peers, suppliers and vendors outside of PSU. The applicant will have demonstrated a deep commitment to equity and inclusion in education, and have a record of continuing professional development to stay abreast of the field and promote pedagogical innovations within ODL and the College of Engineering.
