Job Summary
The Instructional Assistant will assist the Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher with daily responsibilities including classroom management, leading small group activities within Math and Reading labs etc. The Instructional Assistant should be comfortable interacting with children and adults, cooperative with teachers and staff, and be professional when interacting with other interns. The primary goal of Horizons is to reverse the trend of summer learning loss that adversely impacts the long-term success of underserved students
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Facilitates daily camp activities including but not limited to sports specific games, yard games, special event activities, crafts, and small group instruction
2. Assist with drop-off and pick-up
3. Manages behavior of campers, including but not limited to preventing and addressing actions of bullying, supporting principles of good sportsmanship, providing positive reinforcement and affirming positive social interactions and friendship building
4. May provides instructional assistance to Lead and Assistant Teacher as needed
5. Be present and show good judgement
6. Maintain positive attitude and work effectively with children and staff
7. Assist classroom staff during academics and insist on safe behavior from students
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent
Other Required Qualifications
Must complete all required Kennesaw State Minors on Campus Training and camp specific training during scheduled training times
Current, valid and unrestricted driver's license
Required Experience
Must be 18 years of age or older
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
Previous work experience in Education, Early Childhood, Early Child Care Elementary/Middle Grades or Physical Education Experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, or related field
Experience in sport activity
Experience working with small and large groups of children from Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Able to manage stressful situations and make sound disciplinary and corrective actions decisions with children
Able to work within a team, and be self-motivated in task completion
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
Ability to assist with the implementation of daily curriculum and instructional tasks as needed.
Ability to swim
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
