ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position works remotely requiring a telecommuting agreement and adherence to the UCSC Telecommuting/Remote Work Guidelines. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work and, if applicable, arranging for dependent care just as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite.

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) is a public agency supported by 15 members (13 states, one territory and the Bureau of Indian Education). Through the work of thousands of educators, Smarter Balanced created an online assessment system aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), as well as tools for educators to improve teaching and learning. Smarter Balanced is housed at the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Silicon Valley Extension.

Position Summary

Uses skills of instructional design and multimedia development as an experienced professional to help shape instructional content using the formative assessment process into coherent instructional resources. Demonstrates a high degree of collaboration and diplomacy as well as problem analysis and creative solutions. Solves complex content or delivery related issues in collaboration with technical teams. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel. Normally receives little direction for ongoing resource development, workflow, and project assignments.

This position is part of the Instructional Support branch, which manages the development and delivery of Tools for Teachers resources, online learning products, instructional videos, and website/resource authoring development. The team is committed to document and website accessibility (i.e., conformance to WCAG 2.1 AA); as well as the use of rapid improvement cycles for process and program improvement. The team focuses on educator and student supports and works collaboratively with consortium members, educators, and multiple Smarter Balanced internal teams (e.g., content, communications, and technology) to meet the consortium's strategic goal to support effective teaching practices and maximize student learning 

This position will complete established workflow processes to support the development and review of instructional resource materials and website user testing for Smarter Tools for Teachers. This role will require exceptional customer service and attention to detail while working on multiple deliverables within precise timelines. Some tasks will include applying professional concepts and procedures to conduct analytical studies (e.g., draft surveys or review lessons learned) and complete projects of moderate scope and complexity to address a variety of policy, research, and procedural issues. Additionally, this position may analyze issues and problems, gather data and information, find and evaluate alternatives and make sound recommendations for those issues and problems, future projects, or updates to procedures. JOB DUTIES
60% - Program Support

Applies professional instructional design skills to support resource development, apply learning goals / success criteria / formative strategies, and select appropriate technologies and tools to achieve team goals and deliverables (e.g., Smarter Tools for Teachers, SNE Materials Site, Test and Item Management System - Resource Authoring).

Monitors resource development workflow and resolves issues / mediates feedback to complete tasks for product development and workflow delivery within established project schedules.

Works in a collaborative manner with other instructional designers, technology staff, and contractors and demonstrates diplomacy and tact in all communications.  

Works in a collaborative manner with others in a diverse environment and at all levels in the organization to prioritize work assignments, conduct analysis, and develop recommendations.

Conducts appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.

May provide support for testing content and tools to meet ADA requirements (WCAG 2.1AA), research and document copyright for embedded content.

20% - Technical Support    

Deploys content on learning management platforms.

Consults with educators and staff to determine methods for delivery of content and effective use of technology that promotes learner engagement and knowledge acquisition.

Provides technical support to team and educator workgroups and partners with need for login support to access training, Learning Management System administration, and website content management (e.g., Zoom, Google Drive, WordPress, Moodle).

Provides technical support in the context of instructional design (e.g., e-learning for adults). 

Actively seeks out knowledge of and training for new and emerging learning technologies.

10% - Internal and External Customer Service    

Supports faculty and staff in the creation of multimedia content, including interactive learning activities, video, or audio components, and oversees the production of course content according to an established schedule.

10% - Projects    

May provide support for testing content and tools to meet ADA requirements, research and document copyright for embedded media and other non-faculty-created content.

Provides recommendations involving program projects / initiatives.

Coordinates program planning and communication with program / project staff and participants.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design and understanding of how dependencies within projects may impact work being done on other projects, trainings, or in other areas. 
  • Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills as well as strong collaboration and negotiation skills. 
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of typical policies that impact K-12 education.
  • Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, the formative assessment process, universal design, and instructional approaches including remote, hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous learning.
  • Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology, including the use of copyright permissions and source attribution.
  • Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems (e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and educational methodologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of e-learning strategies (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).
  • Advanced level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization. 
  • Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical or specialized training.
  • Experience with preparing high quality technical documents (e.g., copy editing and accessibility).
  • Ability to meet deadlines and provide exceptional customer service in a 100% remote virtual environment (e.g., Zoom, Webex, Teams).
